Our Suite is Sweet

We should have had faith. The suite is SO COOL!! Ok, we are the presidents of our small town, or perhaps the heiresses to the oil baron’s fortune. Ok. Here’s the deal. The suite was not ready by 8. But, at 9, the ocean view master suite was available. So we got upgraded, and we were the first ones to stay in literally the nicest room in Punta del Diablo. Take that, robbers.

The suite is pretty romantic. A glass wall faces out on to the ocean. We’ve got real down pillows and white clean sheets and towels!! A brand new mattress, recently imported, and more space than we know what to do with. We’re currently using the extra floor space as a drying rack for our towels, if that gives you any idea of how much space we have. And we have many towels. It is totally unfit for us. It would be more fit for a newlywed couple on a budget.

Tomorrow, the prices for it go up to something like 160 US dollars a night. But tonight, it’s still ours for 50 dollars. Oh, and we have a deck, also outlooking the ocean. We used it last night to lay out under the stars when we got home. Btw, Mom, you were right. Orion is totally upside-down.

Today Jessie and Janet tried to escape 3rd degree sunburns, ate the most delicious empanadas ever on the beach from the nicest lady, and did a whole lot of nothing. We went swimming, had a nap, discovered a new beach, and found the ATM (the only ATM in town) which we were told has been broken for 3 weeks. It’s located in a courtyard behind a small hotel’s restaurant and gift shops. On the way to find it, we saw a horse and not much else. If our cameras weren’t stolen, we would have taken a picture.

Oh yeah. Where are we moving tomorrow when prices double for carnival? Our new friend, Joaquin from Montevideo, is letting us crash at his place. By which I mean he’s going to try to find a mattress and a tarp so we can sleep in the backyard of the other hostel. This plan is foolproof. We’ll let you know what happens. Oh yeah, and we saw a horse wearing a straw hat with ear-holes. And a dog that looks like Riley, except scrappier.

Over and out, Janessie.

Greetings from Reception

Harry at reception
After the large thunderstorm last night, it has truly been a tranquilo
day in Punta del Diablo. Here at El Diablo Tranquilo Playa Suites, we
have been getting ready for carnaval with a day of Brazilian music.
Vanessa da Mata, Gabriel o Pensador, and other musica popular
brasieria have made a cloudy day much livelier. Based on the phone
calls we have been receiving, it is looking like Punta del Diablo
should be back at full capacity and alive with a youthful energy next
weekend for carnival. For now, the clouds have brought all of the
guests together to enjoy a little mate and perhaps a few drinks at the
bar tonight. Personally I am looking forward to the restaurant’s plate
of the day: pescado a la marinera; a large plate of fish fry just like
home. As Mato says, Vamo arriba que es sabado! As usual, all’s well in
Punta del Diablo.

Cheers and buenas olas,
Harry
